The Miraculous Medal was made based on three apparitions of the Holy Virgin Mary by Catherine Leboure. The Virgin Mary explained to St. Catherine how to craft it. The front of the medal holds the likeness of the Virgin Mary. The reverse side of the medal is the letter M in the middle of the cross, surrounded by 12 stars which represent the 12 Apostles
